July 30, 2025 — Ada Valley Meat Company, based in Michigan, has issued a recall for approximately 1,065 pounds of fully cooked ground beef products after a consumer reported finding pieces of metal in the product. The announcement was made on Tuesday and confirmed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Recalled Product Details
The affected product is labeled “Ada Valley Fully Cooked Ground Beef” and was packaged in 20-pound boxes containing four 5-pound bags. The recall applies to items with the following identifiers:
- Pack dates: May 28 and May 30, 2025
- Lot codes: 35156 and 35157
- Establishment number: “EST. 10031” (located inside the USDA mark of inspection)
The ground beef was distributed to businesses and institutional distributors in five states: California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Company and USDA Response
No injuries have been reported as a result of the contamination. However, both the company and USDA have expressed concern that some of the affected products may still be stored in institutional freezers.
In a public statement, Gerrit Rozeboom, president of Ada Valley Meat Company, said, “We are taking this step out of an abundance of caution and in line with our core value: the safety and trust of our customers come first.”
The USDA has advised institutions and recipients of the product to avoid serving it and to either return or discard the affected packages.
Ongoing Investigation and Preventative Measures
The company is currently working with federal regulators to investigate the root cause of the contamination. In the interim, Ada Valley Meat Company has implemented enhanced safety protocols and quality control checks to prevent future incidents.
Rozeboom added, “We are working closely with regulators to investigate the issue and have already implemented additional safety measures and quality checks to prevent future occurrences.”
Consumer Guidance
Consumers or distributors with questions about the recall are encouraged to contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or via email at MPHotline@usda.gov.
The FSIS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Institutions handling frozen beef products from Ada Valley are urged to check inventory and follow disposal or return instructions if affected items are found.
