Marietta-based Donegal said it is transferring its personal lines business in Alabama, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina and South Dakota to Safeco Insurance.
Financial terms were not disclosed, nor was Donegal’s number of personal lines customers in those states.
Donegal did say it wrote about $25.0 million of personal lines premiums in the seven states in 2017, about 2.6 percent of its overall premium writings.
Donegal, part of Donegal Insurance Group, said its exiting that business in those states because it was unable to reach the scale and spread of risk needed to achieve profitability in that business there.
