With valuable insights for the insurance industry, GIS continues to serve as a leading resource in addressing the industry’s evolving talent needs and bridging the gap between students and the broader insurance sector.

The survey data reveals that the next generation of talent is eager to gain real industry experience and mentorship. Some key findings include:

  • Approximately 80% of respondents preferred full-time internships.
  • Over 75% of respondents cited employment and future growth as a primary internship influencer.
  • Nearly 70% cited meaningful work assignments as a primary internship influencer.
  • Over 80% of respondents said mentorship is very important.
  • Nearly 70% of students are applying for internships as freshmen and sophomores.

Recognized by both the insurance industry and academics, the GIS 9th Annual Student Recruiting Survey sheds light on critical trends and priorities for attracting and retaining the next generation of talent. As the industry continues to tackle ongoing talent challenges, investing in internships and mentorship programs will be essential in exposing students to the diverse opportunities within insurance, risk management and actuarial sciences. The survey also indicated that students value their involvement with Gamma Iota Sigma, not only for industry exposure, but for the connections made with peers, faculty and insurance professionals, while providing meaningful opportunities to enhance their leadership skills and professional development.

Respondents to the GIS 9th Annual Recruiting Survey were comprised of over 400 students and recent graduates from over 40 colleges and universities across North America. The GIS network extends to more than 35,000 alumni and over 5,000 students at 170 colleges and universities across 40 U.S. states and Canada.
