IICF Hosts 13th Annual Northeast Benefit Dinner, Markel Corporation to Receive “Double I” Award

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, will be hosting its 13th Annual Northeast Benefit Dinner, a charitable gala and dinner that supports nonprofits from the New York tri-state region, on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 6:00 p.m. at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. During the event, IICF will bestow the prestigious “Double I” award to the Markel Corporation.

The “Double I” Award, recognizing Influence in the industry and Impact in the community, is presented annually to a prominent insurance organization that has demonstrated inspiring philanthropic leadership and support of local communities. Anthony F. Markel, Vice Chairman of Markel, will accept the award on behalf of the company and employees. Constantine Iordanou, Retired Chairman, Arch Capital Group, will serve as Dinner Chair.

“The annual Northeast Benefit Dinner presents a much-anticipated opportunity to highlight the dedication of our member companies to perpetuating the culture of giving and volunteerism our industry is known for,” said Hank Watkins, Regional Director and President, Americas, Lloyd’s and Chair of the IICF Northeast Division Board. “IICF is honored to partner this year with Markel, an industry leader with an exceptional culture of leadership and sharing.”

This year’s benefit dinner will also feature celebrity speakers Mia Hamm and John Dickerson. Hamm is known for leading the U.S. Women’s Soccer team to two FIFA World Cup victories and winning Olympic Gold. She also runs the Mia Hamm Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds for people needing marrow or cord blood transplants and supports athletic programs for young women.

A correspondent for “60 Minutes”, John Dickerson is an award-winning journalist, who has co-hosted “CBS This Morning”, moderated “Face the Nation” and authored several books. Dickerson will accept a grant on behalf of Covenant House, an organization that cares for homeless youth by providing housing, extensive support and educational services.

Proceeds from the IICF Annual Northeast Benefit Dinner fund area nonprofits supporting education, people in need and the environment. The event raised nearly $1.3 million in 2018 and IICF’s Northeast Division has raised more than $9 million since 2007 for tri-state nonprofits and charities.
