IICF Raises Record $1.43M for Regional Nonprofits at 17th Annual Northeast Benefit Event

IICF holds future of work reform

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, raised more than $1.43 million at its 17th Annual Northeast Benefit Event this week at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This charitable gala gathered over 650 professionals from across the insurance industry for a night dedicated to celebrating the industry’s philanthropic efforts, while raising funds for nonprofit grantees in the region.

At the event, IICF honored Liberty Mutual and their employees with the “Double I” award, a prestigious honor recognizing Influence in the industry and Impact in the community. The “Double I” award is bestowed annually to organizations that have served as leaders in demonstrating philanthropic excellence. Kevin G. Smith, President, Global Risk Solutions North America at Liberty Mutual, accepted the award on behalf of the company and their employees.

“We are truly honored to be the recipient of IICF’s “Double I” award this year,” said Kevin Smith of Liberty Mutual. “The foundation and employees of Liberty Mutual have shown such exceptional generosity, through personal giving and involvement in our communities, and it is my privilege to accept this award on their behalf. As a longtime IICF supporter, I am personally excited to have been a part of this special evening celebrating the many ways the insurance industry is giving back.”

In 2022, the Liberty Mutual Foundation distributed $50 million and is on track to do the same in 2023. Companywide, Liberty Mutual, Liberty Mutual Foundation and its employees gave nearly $64 million to organizations supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger, expanding educational opportunities for young people, addressing the challenges of climate change and more.

Guests at the Northeast Benefit Event heard from industry and nonprofit leaders, as well as speaker Pete Alonso, First Baseman for the New York Mets and founder of The Alonso Foundation, joining us for the second consecutive year in celebration of “insurance All Stars” giving back to the community. The Alonso Foundation is a nonprofit that strives to be a “voice standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” supporting youth, veterans and animal welfare through advocacy, grant-making and programming.

Proceeds from the IICF Northeast Benefit Event support grants to an array of regional nonprofits including: 180 Turning Lives Around, The Alonso Foundation, East Side House, Freedom House, Friends of Karen, Fulfill, Horizons at Sacred Heart University, Mount Kisco Child Care Center, NAMI NYC, Reading Partners, Riverkeeper, Table to Table and WomenRising. In addition, the Division has given 10 additional grants outside the metropolitan area to nonprofits that were nominated by agents and brokers who live and work in those communities.
