The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, today released the 2024 IICF Regional Forums Recap, a document sharing key takeaways and learnings from this year’s IICF Regional Forums held in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and London. This report offers actionable insights gathered from sessions and discussions led by respected insurance and business leaders centered around advancing inclusion and innovation while working to build the future of talent and work in insurance.

“This year’s Regional Forums highlighted the benefits of our industry taking a fresh approach to inclusion and innovation,” said Elizabeth Myatt, VP, Chief Program Officer of IICF. “Our speakers and attendees shared powerful insights and actionable steps to create and implement practices that fit today’s workforce and take advantage of talent development programs such as mentorship and apprenticeships.”

Takeaways centered on how businesses can pair social progress and environmental stewardship and why diversity of thought is critical to the future of the insurance industry. Speakers and panelists concluded that:

  • A more inclusive future of work calls for new, innovative initiatives, beyond the best practices we have implemented in the workplace over the years.
  • The industry should contemplate an expanded approach to recruiting by considering veterans, mothers returning to the workforce and high school students among other underrepresented individuals and consider the value of mentorship programs in helping to attract and retain talent.
  • Grounding inclusion and belonging goals within a company’s core values rather than creating abstract targets and metrics can help the workforce rally behind these efforts and initiatives.

“We are excited to share the inspiring and unique learnings from our Regional Forums and hope these takeaways help to provide a future roadmap for our industry,” said Wendy Houser, Chief Wholesale Officer at Markel and Chair of the IICF International Board of Governors. “As our industry welcomes a record level of new talent in the upcoming years, we take great pride in the mentorship, leadership and philanthropic opportunities IICF offers to all those embarking on and advancing their careers in insurance.”
