ShelterWind, a new program administrator backed by MISSION, has officially launched an all-wind and hail deductible buyback insurance policy designed to reduce the financial impact of wind-related events on property owners. The program is led by Simon Hudson, an insurance industry leader known for developing innovative insurance solutions, and supported by Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s.
Program Overview
ShelterWind provides supplemental insurance to help property owners manage large deductibles associated with wind and hail losses. The standalone policy allows homeowners and commercial property owners to reduce the out-of-pocket costs they must pay before their primary insurance coverage takes effect. The policy covers wind-related events such as hurricanes, named storms, and hail, and includes both occurrence and aggregate coverage limits, meaning it can apply to multiple events during a policy term.
The product is available in all 50 states and is especially suited for 18 coastal, wind-exposed states stretching from Texas to Maine. It supports both residential and commercial primary coverages and is structured as an excess follow form policy.
Leadership and Market Position
ShelterWind was founded by Simon Hudson in partnership with Joe Braunstein. Both have extensive experience in building and scaling successful insurance programs. Hudson serves as CEO, while Braunstein is the company’s Transactional Underwriter.
Hudson noted that the personal lines market is under pressure due to increasing natural disaster risks and the challenge of providing adequate coverage in weather-prone areas. He described the new policy as a proactive and positive solution for brokers and agents to help clients rebuild and recover faster after severe weather events.
Braunstein emphasized that the product’s broad protection against all major wind and hail exposures—beyond just hurricanes or named storms—sets it apart in today’s insurance marketplace.
