State Farm insurance company is suing Norfolk Southern on behalf of two residents who reported property damage from the train derailment in East Palestine on Feb. 3, 2023.

The subrogation lawsuit was filed Feb. 22 in the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas and seeks a total judgment of over $87,250 from Norfolk Southern.

According to the lawsuit, State Farm insured Justin Daubenmire and Barbara Georgescu, who owned properties on E. Main and Alice streets.

The lawsuit contends that Daubenmire’s and Georgescu’s properties were damaged by the train derailment and chemical fire that followed.

A review of the civil case is set for April 30, according to court records.
