AIA: Insurers to Respond Quickly to Tornado Victims

Gov. Marc Racicot, president of the American Insurance Association (AIA), today assured victims that the insurance industry would be focused on a quick response in assessing the damage and paying policyholder claims in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that have torn through Tennessee and other parts the South, during the past two days.  
 
“The wounds left by tornadoes of this magnitude are difficult to fully heal, but our industry is committed to a rapid and focused response to these tragic storms,” said Racicot. “Prompt dispatch of resources from insurers is an important part of the recovery process, and our companies are committed to getting policy holders back on their feet.”  
 
By Wednesday, several AIA member companies had already announced that the claims process had begun and that special mobile claims buses had been deployed directly to affected communities.  
 
“Having sent mobile units into devastated neighborhoods, insurers have established immediate lines of aid and a strong presence in the wake of these disastrous tornadoes,” Racicot said.  
 
Racicot also commended the Tennessee State Insurance Commissioner, Leslie Newman, and the Tennessee Department of Insurance for their efforts in assisting the residents with the claims process.  
 
“The Commissioner and her team appear to be making commendable efforts toward helping Tennesseans get the information they need to work with insurers effectively,” stated Racicot. “Whether it’s been helping victims contact their insurance company or helping facilitate the claims adjustments process, her department has been focused on relief.”
