The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, granted nearly $500,000 at its eighth annual IICF Western Division Horizon Award Gala at the Sunset Room Hollywood in Los Angeles last evening. The event gathered insurance leaders from the Western states, along with representatives of nonprofit partners, in celebration of the industry’s legacy of collaboration and giving by raising funds for nonprofit organizations.
As part of the celebration, Alexandra S. Glickman, Senior Managing Director and Global Practice leader of Gallagher’s Real Estate & Hospitality Services and the larger Los Angeles Real Estate & Hospitality Team, was honored with IICF’s Golden Horizon Award. This prestigious award recognizes those within the insurance community who has demonstrated philanthropic excellence and leadership. Glickman is a dynamic philanthropic and industry leader in the Los Angeles region, having been active with the global nonprofit Urban Land Institute, the National Rental Housing Council and Real Estate Roundtable, and as past Chair of the City of Hope Real Estate and Construction Division. Glickman’s community commitment is amplified by the larger team’s participation in numerous philanthropic efforts. “The team’s recognition with the IICF Horizon Award is a true honor, and I’m proud of the impact our industry is making here in Los Angeles and beyond,” said Glickman. “This evening is all the more special as we recognize my colleagues on the Gallagher Real Estate & Hospitality team, and celebrate the work of Children’s Bureau, for they are doing to support vulnerable children and families right here in our city.”
Proceeds from the 2023 Western Division Horizon Award Gala benefit the IICF Community Grants Program in the West, which supports regional charities focused on children at risk, education and human services. Since 2014, IICF’s Western Division has granted more than $4.2 million to hundreds of nonprofits. IICF is proud to count more than 150 insurance industry leaders across the Western states as board members contributing to our communities as part of the IICF Western Division, Northern and Southern California Associate Boards, Chapter boards in Arizona, Colorado and the Pacific Northwest, and regional steering committees.
“Through IICF, we unite the philanthropic strength of the insurance industry in the Western states and make a tremendous impact in the lives of our neighbors in need,” said Nancy Thomas, Chair of the IICF Western Division Board of Directors and Commercial & Entertainment Practice Leader at HUB International. “We have so many to thank for their extraordinary contributions – from those whose generosity make the Horizon Gala possible to each insurance professional dedicating time to volunteering in our communities throughout the year. Our division encompasses many states and we’re able to reach personally into each one through the support of local insurance communities working through IICF together.”
Nancy Thomas, a longtime member of the Western Division Board of Directors, was appointed as Chair of the Western Division in January, succeeding Kurt Stemmler of Chubb.
Children’s Bureau was the featured nonprofit organization of this year’s Horizon Award Gala. A longstanding IICF nonprofit partner and 2023 grant recipient, Children’s Bureau is a trusted nonprofit leader in strengthening vulnerable children, their parents and the communities in which they live.
“We are excited to have hosted another sell-out of our annual Horizon Gala,” said Melissa-Anne Duncan, Executive Director of the IICF Western Division. “Our supporters are passionate about IICF and our mission of helping communities and enriching lives, and they look forward each year to celebrating insurance industry
philanthropy at this event. Another measure of their generosity can be seen in the fight against hunger. Last year, through various Fill the Truck and other food drives in the Western Division, we helped to deliver approximately 560,000 meals to neighbors struggling with food insecurity.”
