AP Wire Says Clinton to Concede Nomination to Obama Tonight, Campaign Says No
The AP wire reported this morning that Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton (NY), who is now back in New York, will be conceding the nomination to her opponent Senator Barak Obama (IL) tonight. However, after the news broke, Clinton's campaign denied that she is planning to make such an announcement.
Senator Obama is just 43 delegates away from securing the nomination. Between the pledged delegates he picks up today from the South Dakota and Montana primaries and another rush of super-delegate endorsements his campaign expects, he is likely to reach the 2,118 delegates he needs to become the party's nominee by week's end.
Clinton, by contrast, is 199 delegates shy of the threshold and would need to persuade more than 85 percent of the remaining undeclared super-delegates to block Obama. Over the past three months, Obama has gotten about 80 percent of all super-delegate endorsements.
