Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Names Akshay Gupta as Head of Catastrophe Engineering & Analytics

"As Head of our newly established Catastrophe Engineering & Analytics group, Akshay will lead our efforts to integrate state-of-the-art catastrophe science and engineering with the best of the industry's catastrophe modeling to form our view of location-level and large-scale risk - benefiting both our product development and our customers' efforts to better understand and mitigate their risk and reduce loss costs," said Sanjay Godhwani, Executive Vice President, BHSI. "We are pleased to welcome Akshay, and to add his exceptional expertise to our property team."

Akshay has more than 20 years of experience in catastrophe risk analysis, engineering, mitigation, and modeling. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President at AIR Worldwide where he led a practice providing engineering-based, site-specific risk modeling and assessments for complex industrial and commercial facilities and operations. His background also includes catastrophe model research and development, supply chain risk modeling, and disaster risk financing and mitigation projects for corporations and sovereign states.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi and earned a master's degree and Ph.D. in earthquake engineering from Stanford University.
