Cincinnati has asked the OIR to approve a 37.5% statewide increase in its homeowner’s insurance rates, though representatives of the insurer and the OIR said they could not comment on whether the subpoenas are related to the rate filing.
Cincinnati filed a petition to limit the scope of the subpoenas in the Circuit Court for Leon County in Tallahassee. While the insurer continues copying hundreds of thousands of pages of documents to meet the subpoenas’ Sept. 24 deadline, it contends in the filing that the OIR demands are too broad and exceed regulators’ investigative authority.
The records demand covers multiple years and extends beyond Cincinnati’s Florida business to its operations in all states, the insurer contends.
The OIR has directed Cincinnati officials to testify about the subpoenaed documents at a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 18.
