Insurance companies are just beginning to obtain some estimates of damage and claims from the fire, and are gearing up for a wave of claims and emotions from customers devastated or displaced by one of the worst wildfires to hit the Lake Tahoe region.

The blaze forced more than 3,000 people to evacuate homes and many who have returned in recent days have found little remaining.
