“Inspired and undaunted by the challenges of the past year, including the ongoing pandemic and most recently Hurricane Ida, the insurance industry continued supporting those in need through fundraising for community grants and safe community volunteerism,” said Bill Ross, CEO of IICF. “Giving back is an essential part of our professional lives all through the year. IICF and our nonprofit partners are excited to celebrate the dedication and commitment to volunteerism of our industry during this year’s Week of Giving through so many meaningful opportunities for service.”
During the 2021 Week of Giving, professionals from insurance companies, reinsurers, agencies and related businesses will participate in engaging volunteer projects dedicated to addressing critical societal issues, including food insecurity and homelessness, childhood literacy and education, disaster preparedness, veteran causes, the environment and more. The various service projects, many with both virtual and in-person options, include food and basic needs drives, creative fundraisers, garden, beach and community cleanups, book drives, virtual tutoring, interviews and resume building, ‘plogging, plalking and pliking’, meal preparations and more. Leading into the 2021 Week of Giving, IICF partnered with Our Military Kids to host the Share Your Thanks volunteer campaign. Our Military Kids is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting military children while their parents are deployed or recovering through the funding of sports, arts and other initiatives. Share Your Thanks, which took place from July 4 – Sept. 11, offered insurance industry professionals and their families and friends the opportunity to write a note, create a drawing and share words of encouragement and appreciation for the service and sacrifice of military families. The program was a great success, with more than 3,000 cards, drawings and letters and many more anticipated for delivery to children and teens across the US. Several leading IICF board companies, including Berkshire Hathaway HomeState Companies, Chubb, CNA, Peachtree Insurance Brokers, Philadelphia Insurance Companies, USAA, Zurich and more, organized virtual and in-person events in support of IICF Share Your Thanks.
Week of Giving, the longest ongoing volunteer initiative in the insurance industry, has gathered more than 110,000 volunteers and served well over 300,000 volunteer hours since 1998.
