Mergers and acquisitions among insurance brokers and agents declined 18% in the first quarter, falling to the lowest level of deals since the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, according to a report released Friday by Optis Partners LLC.

Optis Partners: Agency M&A Deals Fell in 2023
It appears the industry may be settling in to a new normal, or perhaps it’s returning to an old one, a year after the completion of the 25-month wave of deals that concluded at the end of 2022. The deal volume each quarter of 2023 was at or above each of the quarters before this rush of deals, according to Optis Partners.
Insurance M&A Activity Declines
OPTIS Partners, which tracks insurance mergers and acquisitions, said M&A activity in the first three-quarters of 2023 is the largest decline it has ever recorded.
